Educational Tour at Sanctuary Center and Elsie Gaches Village

In front of Sanctuary Center
Last Wednesday (March 7, 2012), we have our educational tour at Sanctuary Center located at Mandaluyong City and Elsie Gaches Village. After few minutes of travel, we already reach our first destination. before we entered the institutions we prepared the donations and food we gave to the clients
Mam Luz

We were by pair entering the institutions. We oriented by Ms. Luz the activity therapist, she gave us some background of the institution and the client status they are handling and according to them some of them are already improved. After the orientation, we were ready to visit their facilities. We saw their wards, dining area and  a lot more.

Dining Area
Actually, I don't know what the right reaction was when we already near with them. I felt so much excited and at the same time a little bit nervous.  But when the time goes by, I already felt happiness and curious with them. As I observed them some clients, were aggressive, cooperative in our activity, lonely, quite, and some were only contented in watching us and there were no reaction at all.

Ward

During the activity prepared by us I observed that there were clients who joined us (dancing, singing and playing games). But I can’t forget one of the clients who volunteered to pray in front and never stop her speech. As we looked at them, there were clients who have in common (involuntary movement of the body and mouth).

We successfully ended up the activity with the clients and we learned something from them “Aba Siyempre” a term when we agree in something.

I enjoyed so much in our educational tour though it’s quite tiring.

Staff of Elsie Gaches Village

When we were already at Elsie Gaches Village, one of the staff oriented us first. She explained to us the process before they will accept the client. Actually, i learned a lot from her explanation she really oriented us well even though i felt something ashamed when she asked us about the stages of mental retardation. We were not able to answer her correctly (funny but true). yes we were a PSYCHOLOGY STUDENT, but not ready to faced all the actual practiced.

Sir Aaron, the only psychologist of the institution oriented us also he explained the facilities and cottages inside the village. He was the one who guide us to visit all the facilities like clinic, school, church, cottages that divided in color coded and their kitchen.

During our tour inside the village there were some of the client who were freely walking, playing and some were followed us. Some of the clients greeted us and some were just never mind us.

Cottage at Elsie Gaches Village

Though it was our first time to visit Elsie Gaches Village we were so thankful and proud to all the staff and house person because they were all have long patience in taking good care to all the clients.

I enjoyed so much visiting their place and gave us motivation to finished our course because maybe some of us will also come back here to take care and understand their situation.
